SUMMARY

This law (MCL 324.32301-32315) establishes the Shorelands Protection and Management Program. The law required that areas of the shoreland determined to be “high risk” from erosion, flood risk, or necessary for the preservation and maintenance of fish and wildlife, be designated by the State. Once designated, the program requires that provisions be adopted to provide for proper management of these at risk areas along the Great Lakes shoreline. Permits are required for construction activities within these designated areas.
Under this law, local government authorities are supposed to submit zoning ordinances that regulate a high risk, flood risk area, or environmental area, to the Department for approval or disapproval.

Always refer to the most current version of the law, either by checking the compiled laws, or referring to the Legislative Bureau site above.
