Acquiring these properties and managing them to protect the unique ecological features of each property, as well as construcing trails for public enjoyment, has been an effort of the many dedicated members of the Leelanau Conservancy.

Based on different goals and objectives, each indivdual property has been designated either as a Preserve or a Natural Area.

Preserves are properties that are open to the public for Guided Walks Only. These areas contain either habitat or wildlife that may be threatened by human use.

Natural Areas are open to the public year round. These properties are highly variable. Some Natural Areas contain trail systems, information kiosks and parking areas, whereas others do not. Specific information is available on the Leelanau Conservancy's website.

The Conservancy offers many hikes led by the Leelanau Conservancy Docents, or volunteer naturalists. To find out when our next guided hike will be visit the Leelanau Conservancy's events webpage.
