Leelanau County Web Site Information
Initial Development.
The project was funded by the C.S. Mott and W.K. Kellogg Foundation with a grant we received in 2002. We were one of 5 counties to receive funding for a demonstration project begun by the Michigan Council of Local Governments (MCOLG), an afilliation of representatives from the Michigan Municipal League (MML), Michigan Townships Association (MTA), Michigan Association of Counties (MAC), Michigan Association of Regions (MAR), and Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB). The project was led by the Land Information Access Association (LIAA), in Traverse City. The project was begun to demonstrate how emerging information technologies can support greater intergovernmental cooperation in land use planning through information sharing, computer-based analyses, and public participation. The county, Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians, all 11 townships, 3 villages, the public schools, libraries, and several non-profit organizations, supported the project and helped fund it.

Information Updating.
The web site is operated by the Leelanau County Information Technology Department.  Information is updated on a weekly basis by the Equalization, Planning, and Treasurer's Departments.  Deeds information is updated daily by the Register of Deeds Department.  Other departments and township update information on an as-needed basis.

Troubleshooting Tips

Trouble displaying the Map.
The maps on this site are considered "pop-ups" to Microsoft Internet Explorer.  By default with Windows XP Service Pack 2, all pop-ups will be blocked.  To allow the map to display, either turn off the pop-up blocker in Explorer or at least add www.leelanau.cc to the list of allowed sites.  To do this, click on "Tools" in Internet Exporer, select "Internet Options" and then select the "Privacy Tab".  (This will only be available if you have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed.)  Once on the "Privacy" options, either uncheck the "Block Pop-Ups" checkbox or add www.leelanau.cc to the list of allowed sites.

Other Pop-up Blockers.
There are other virus programs and "Toolbars" that can unknowingly act as Pop-up Blockers.  Two that have been identified as potential problems are the Google and Yahoo Toolbars.  It is recommended that these be uninstalled.
