Q. How much do I owe for delinquent real property taxes?
A. You should have an eleven-digit parcel/property number and/or a name of the propertyowner/taxpayer in order to receive tax information. You may contact our office at 231-256-9838.
Q. What should I do if I didn't receive a tax bill?
A. You can request a tax bill for any delinquent real taxes from our office. You will need to contact your city/township/village treasurer for the current summer, village or winter tax bill. All personal property tax bills must be obtained from your local city/township/village treasurer.
Q. I did not receive a tax bill - can the penalties and interest be waived?
A. No. The County Treasurer cannot waive penalties and interest. The State holds the taxpayer responsible to know that taxes are paid on time.
Q. When are the property tax statements sent?
A. Tax bills are sent out by the Cities, Townships, and Villages twice a year. Summer and Village tax bills go out by July 1st and winter taxes by December 1st.
Q. When are taxes due?
A. Summer and Village taxes are due by September 14 without penalty. Winter taxes are due by February 28. Some townships charge a 3% penalty from February 15 - February 28. All taxes become delinquent to the Leelanau County Treasurer on March 1 with additional penalties and interest, computed with a 4% penalty and 1% interest per month. Other costs are applicable if a property has gone to forfeiture.

A. You can get your tax number from a tax bill or call our office at 231-256-9838.
Q. What is the phone number for the City, Township or Village?
A. At our Goverment site there is a selection for all the City, Townships, and Villages.
Q. Can I make partial payments on my delinquent taxes?
A. Yes. Up to the point of the taxes being in forfeiture.
Q. Can taxes be paid with a personal check?
A. Yes and No. Please make checks payable to the Leelanau County Treasurer. Personal and business checks are not accepted from December 1 - March 31 for those parcels in the forfeiture procedure.

Q. Do you accept credit cards?
A. Yes. You must call our office (231) 256-9838 to verify payment amount and get an authorization code before calling Government Payment Service (GPS) at 888-604-7888. A service fee will be added to the total amount charged.
