In December 2008, Leland Township held a citizens' meeting to discuss community sewer options. One of the goals was to identify members of a task force of citizens representing property owners on north Lake Leelanau to seek and recommend the best wastewater treatment options for those properties.

Duties of the task force include:

• confirming public interest in sewer systems;
• defining potential service areas;
• evaluating current and future needs;
• identifying and evaluating alternatives;
• estimating costs for each option; and
• creating findings of fact to accompany the group's recommendation to the Leland Township Board.
