A merger in June 2000 between two like-minded institutions, Interlochen Center for the Arts and The Pathfinder School, resulted in Interlochen Pathfinder School, an independent day school serving children of the Grand Traverse region, from pre-school through eighth grade. Founded in 1972, Pathfinder is known for its dedicated teachers, small classes, challenging curriculum, and warm-and-caring atmosphere. The academic program focuses on the development of a strong foundation in the language arts, math, science, social science, physical education, French and the fine arts, including studio art, music and art history. A popular summer camp serves hundreds of area children age 4 through eighth grade with programs that offer skill-building, artistic discovery, and plenty of pure, summer fun. Pathfinder's 22-acre wooded campus is nestled between Cedar Lake and Grand Traverse Bay on M-22, approximately 3 miles north of downtown Traverse City.
